Questions to Ask Before a New Boiler Installation
In order to understand your needs from your new boiler install, the set up of the household (or business) and the number of people who live (or work) there, we will ask a series of questions to fully understand what boiler you need to be able to guide you in the right direction when choosing your own boiler to be installed.
- Is this a new boiler installation or a replacement boiler install?
- Do you have a gas supply?
- Do you have electricity if there is no gas supply?
- Do you want an oil or solar boiler installed?
- Do you need a Combi Boiler, Traditional Boiler (Standard Boiler) or System Boiler?
- Do you want your boiler fitted in the same location or a different one?
- How many bedrooms (or office space) are in the property? (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 bedroom etc)
- What kind of property is it? (flat, terraced house, semi-detached, detached, bungalow)
- How many baths or showers are there (or do you plan to have)?
- What boiler size do you need for the requirements and specification of the property?
- Is your gas supply and pipe size sufficient to supply your boiler?
- Where is your current boiler located?
- If you have a gas boiler, where is the flue?
- Is the flue square or round?
- How close to the ground is your flue?
- How close to another property is your flue?
- Is your flue uninhibited by a roof?
- Is your flue at least 30 cm from a door or window?
- What is the size of your property and how many people live or work there?
- How much hot water is used simultaneously?
This gives us a clear picture of what your needs are from the boiler, what the requirements of the property are in terms of gas supply or not, pipe size, location of gas meter, distance of boiler from bathroom and kitchen, flue location etc.
This also lets us comply with all UK health and safety regulations related to boilers and gas.
Once all this information is discussed with you, we can give you a quote for the various options available to you.
What Is In Your Boiler Installation Quote?
Our boiler installation quote is a breakdown of all the options which are available to you, the size of the boilers, the warranty options included or offered and most importantly the full price including the supply of your new boiler, the boiler installation and the removal of an old boiler if there is one.
Things to consider from your boiler installation quote are:-
The make of the boiler you want – Boiler brand names are definitely the best to go for and we always recommend certain boiler brands over other. Since we only ever offer our customers the best quality and value for money, we suggest one of the following brands in no particular order. Worcester Bosch, Ideal, Viessmann, Vaillant, Alpha, Atag, Baxi, Potterton and Glow Worm.
The model of the boiler you want –
Boiler Quality – Boiler quality can vary massively between different boiler manufacturers. As is often the case in life, the more you pay, the better quality the boiler you get. This can mean that over the years, your boiler can last longer, with less boiler repairs meaning that it may be cheaper to buy the best boiler you can afford at the time of the boiler installation.
We have found that these brands are overall the most reliable, have the best customer service and support, have great warranties and extended warranty offers and are the most efficient on the market.
Prices – Often the boiler price is in line with boiler quality (as above) although this is only when you get your boiler installation from a reputable and gas safe registered boiler specialist like 1st Plumbers East Kilbride.
Customer Care – When buying a new boiler you would hardly expect anything to go wrong and they seldom do. However, you may need that customer care later down the line and you want to make sure that there is a support line there and that they are prepared to help you. For this reason we compiled the list of preferred boiler manufacturers (Worcester Bosch, Ideal, Viessmann, Vaillant, Alpha, Atag, Baxi, Potterton and Glow Worm).
Warranty – Most Boiler Manufacturers offer a manufacturers boiler warranty and some offer an extended boiler warranty which is an additional cost but covers you for the additional extended period of time. For example, a boiler offers a boiler warranty for 3 years but also offers an extended 5 year warranty which means if you choose this option then your boiler is covered for 8 years. Some boiler manufacturers are currently offering some fantastic boiler warranties which you should definitely consider when reviewing your boiler installation quote.
What Does Your Boiler Installation Include?
Our boiler installations are a fixed price and include VAT so that there are no last minute price changes or nasty add ons.
The price we quote for is the price you pay – honest and fair pricing.
The boiler installation includes:-
- The supply of your new boiler.
- Additional parts required to fit your boiler, including pipework, caps and fittings.
- A magnetic central heating filter to trap sludge build up.
- The removal of your old boiler.
- Chemical Cleanse of your boiler.
- Power cleanse if this was included in your quote.
- Room thermostat or wireless room thermostat set up if in quote.
- The boiler engineers time for boiler installatio
Boiler Installation After Care
Once you have had your boiler installation completed, what happens next?
Once you have had your boiler installed, our boiler engineer will show you how to operate it and set up any additional features which you may have decided to choose such as a wireless room thermostat which allows you to control your temperature from a wireless control or even from your mobile phone. (This is an amazing new innovation and most customers will choose this although it is not necessary for a new boiler installation).
Our boiler engineer will also guide you through your warranty and inform you what paperwork you will have to keep (and the key for your magnetic filter).
After your boiler installation, your boiler engineer will register you new boiler so that the boiler manufacturer is aware of the new boiler installation and can award your warranty accordingly.
From there on, you will be reminded about your annual boiler service which is required for your boiler warranty with the manufacturers. You can choose to have an annual boiler service or you can look at our care plans to have all of your boiler services and repairs taken care of for one small monthly payment.
Also, if you have any questions or queries at any time about your boiler installation, you can call us at any time on (01355) 202656.

Thank you guys for doing a great job. I was panicking so much when we came home to the flooding that I didn't know what to do. Your plumber, Martin was exceptionally helpful not only in stopping any further damage and preventing the water leak but he was also able to remove a lot of the water with some sort of re-direction of the pipe system. That's when we knew that we had a professional at hand.
We can't thank you enough and my 6 year old son now wants to be a plumber too so that he can help other people. I'll let him know where to get his training!
