What is a Power Flush?
A Power Flush is a deep clean for a central heating system. It is used to get rid of the sludge which builds up in your radiators, pipes and boiler over time from dirt and corroded iron deposits which have rusted and broken off and then sit at the bottom of your radiators.
Using a specialists power flush machine which produces a high volume of water at low water pressure to flush out any debris which is in your radiators.
We use power flush chemicals to break up the sludge and the water forces this through and out of your system leaving a clean and healthy central heating system.
This increases the efficiency of the boiler and also the radiators and prolongs their life-span saving you money on heating bills and boiler repairs.

Why Do I Need A Power Flush?
You will need a Power Flush for two reasons.
1. The first reason why you would need a power flush is when your radiators have cold spots at the bottom or the middle of them indicating sludge in the system. If the cold spot is at the top of the radiator, this is usually just trapped air and bleeding the radiators will resolve this simple problem.
What is Sludge?
This is a great question.
Sludge is formed from dirt and debris in your central heating system like rusted and corroded parts of metal from your radiators, boiler pump and valves etc.
These corrode over time as water passes through them casuing rust (iron oxide). This binds with the dirt and water causing a grimey sticky substance called sludge which causes havoc in your central heating system.
As water is continually passing through your central heating system, so is the sludge. That means that it gets into your boiler as well as all of your radiators. This is why it is so disruptive and must be power flushed out.
The sludge causes problems with your boiler which lead to boiler repairs needing done and it also reduces the efficiency of your radiators which feel cold even though hot water is passing through them.
2. The second reason that you would have a power flush is if you are getting a new boiler or heating system installed.
You definitely want to get any sludge out of your system before installing a brand new (and very expensice) central heating system.
Many companies will do a power flush as standard when installing a new central heating system. Other companies will do a chemical flush which does the same job in terms of fluching out the sludge but it is not as powerful deep clean as a power flush.
This means that when your new heating system gets installed, you are running at maximum efficiency and your boiler is operating as it should and your radiators are piping hot as they should be.
Some Boiler Manufacturer warranties insist that a Power Flush or a Chemical Flush is carried out before the installation of the new boiler or your boiler warranty will not be valid.
Benefits of a Power Flush East Kilbride
What are the benefits of a power flush?

- Reduced Heating Bills

- Improves Boiler Life-Span
How Long Does a Power Flush Take
A Power Flush is slow and labour intensive process. It will take several hours to flush out all the sludge in your system.
The length of time taken for a power flush will increase depending on the amount of sludge in your central heating system.
The length of time taken for a power flush will also increase depending on the size of the property and the number of radiators to flush out.
To give you some idea of time though, a small flat would take around 4 hours and an average size 3-4 bedroom house would take a full day to flush out the sludge in all the radiators and have your system flowing freely without any sludge build up.
How Often Should I Get a Power Flush?
The 2 situations where you should look into getting a power flush is before installing a new central heating system or when you are getting cold spots on your radiators at the bottom or middle indicating that there is a sludge build up.
In order to maximise the efficiency and life span of your central heating system, we recommend that you follow our maintenance guide.
Having an annual boiler service not only ensures the safety of your home and your loved ones but the boiler engineer will also be checking for any sludge during the service.
This means that you can continue to monitor any potential for a sludge build up over time and your boiler engineer would indicate to you if there are any problems looming.
During your boiler service, the boiler engineer will also connect a magnetic filter to your boiler which attracts any sludge to it meaning that small amounts of sludge in your central heating system get trapped here instead of continuing round the system and being trapped at the bottom of your radiators and causing problems.
Your boiler engineer will also use an inhibitor in your system to prevent scaling and corrosion within your central heating system from taking place.
For maximum efficiency, we recommend your boiler and heating system should have a Power Flush or Chemical Flush (Chemical Cleanse) carried out every 5 years or so.
How often you get this done may depend on the size of your system, the number of radiators, the age of your boiler and type of heat exchanger you have in the boiler.
If you would like to book a power flush or a boiler service to assess the condition of your central heating system, call the plumbing and heating professionals in East Kilbride.

Happy Customers
Thank you guys for doing a great job. I was panicking so much when we came home to the flooding that I didn't know what to do. Your plumber, Martin was exceptionally helpful not only in stopping any further damage and preventing the water leak but he was also able to remove a lot of the water with some sort of re-direction of the pipe system. That's when we knew that we had a professional at hand.
We can't thank you enough and my 6 year old son now wants to be a plumber too so that he can help other people. I'll let him know where to get his training!
